Black squares on top of a picture

Most of these qr codes I get are of a picture in the background and something that looks like a regular black qr code on top.........unless I do a recommended search like the default treehouse, but I don't want that.

Also I searched up dark smile...I got failed to generate qr codes and this which looks NOTHING like a smile :(
